Explore the Exciting Sport of Badminton

Badminton was developed by the British in the mid- to late 1800s. It is a racquet sport played on a rectangular court with a high net. Players use light racquets to volley a shuttlecock, or birdie, back and forth across the high net. The main idea is to not let the shuttlecock fall to the ground on your side. A score is made when the shuttlecock falls to the ground on the opposing side of the net.

The game can be played three different ways: singles, one person per side of the net; doubles, two people per side of the net; and mixed doubles, a team consisting of a man and a woman. Doubles and mixed doubles require a greater use of strategy than singles as players are required to work as a team.

Badminton is a great game to introduce to students, people who are interested in learning a racquet sport and those who want to add some fun to an otherwise boring workout.
