Badminton Court Dimensions

The dimensions of a Badminton court are based upon a linear criteria that varies whether the game played upon the court is a singles or doubles match. The variance in the width of a Badminton court is frequently confusing to inexperienced players.
Outer dimensions
The outer dimensions of a Badminton court mark the perimeter of the boundaries of play, and a Badminton court is 44 feet long for both singles and doubles games. In singles games, the width of the court is 17 feet, which is increased to 20 feet for doubles matches.
Internal dimensions
The rectangle is divided in the middle and along the width by a net, with one half of the court assigned to an individual player or a team. Within each half of the court, a six foot rectangle expanding out from the net marks an area where serving the shuttle is not permitted. At the opposite end of each triangle is a serving area about 2 feet long and as wide as the overall court, which acts as the serving area for singles matches. The remaining space in the middle, about 10 feet in length, is divided into two additional rectangles along the length of the court and acts as the serving area for doubles matches.
The net
The net stretches the entire width of the court and stands 61 inches high at both sides, with a minimum height of 60 inches in the middle of the net. The height of the Badminton net is static and does not vary based on singles or doubles games.
Badminton court dimensions apply only to the size of the court, and the allowances for these dimensions do not specify a minimum ceiling height. When hosting badminton games, it is recommended to place the court in a building with a ceiling high enough not to interfere with the travel of the shuttle.
